Ellers Mortuary was founded in 1924 by Howard W. Ellers in Kokomo. By the 1930s, the business found its permanent and present home at 725 South Main Street. When Howard died in 1952, his sons took over the family business. Son Joseph then retired in 1980. In 1982 his brother Gale Ellers passed away unexpectedly. His wife, Mimi, began overseeing the funeral home until her death in 1984. Longtime employee, Philip D. Weaver, Richard Myers, and the support staff kept Ellers going. In 2007, Paul St. Pierre, a sixth generation Funeral Director, acquired the funeral homes to provide the same outstanding funeral service for Indiana families today as Howard Ellers did eight decades ago.
